The Karin Foundation was established in 2014 by Somaliland Americans in response to the collapse of Somalia’s education system in 1991. With schools destroyed and opportunities lost, an entire generation faced an uncertain future. The founders, having benefited from education abroad, committed themselves to rebuilding educational pathways for Somali students—starting at the community level and growing into full institutions.

The Foundation was created to answer a defining question:
How do we restore opportunity where it has been lost?
What began as support for underserved villages—providing learning materials and assisting teachers—quickly revealed a deeper need: access to high-quality education at every level, from basic schooling to university.
